Press release
Srpenica, April 26th, 2022
We are announcing new information regarding the event on
April 21st, 2022, when a raw material was spilled into the Soča River. The raw material that
leaked into the Soča River is called BUILDENT WR-750. The data in the safety
data sheet states that it is a
non-hazardous substance and is not harmful to river life. According to known data, ten tons of
raw material leaked.
Today, we received official results from the National
Laboratory of Health, Environment and Food on the quality of the water samples
taken. Immediately on April 21st, 2022, we ordered sampling of the Soča River
at three different locations from TKK to Tolmin. The official results based on
the chemical analysis we received today,
confirm that there was a spill of the non-hazardous raw material Buildent
WR-750, that the general parameters of water in the Soča do not show dangerous
properties and that the toxicity test does not show dangerous water properties.
There were also no specifics that would indicate the impact of possible
pollution on the water sample taken from the Močila waterworks in Anhovo.
To summarize - on the morning of 21 April 2022, we were informed
that the part of the Soča River below the factory where the rapids are located
was quite foamy. We immediately started with preventive measures and an
examination to find the cause. Unfortunately, we found that due to human error,
our raw material was spilled into the river. The intervention was completed on
Thursday, April 21, 2022, and by the Civil Protection, the Soča was open for
navigation on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 10 AM. There were no fish deaths, and
according to official information, life in the river was not endangered.
At TKK, we have already started taking all the necessary
measures to prevent a similar event from happening again in the future.
